9 Signs Your Top Employees Are Leaving Soon, and How You Can Prevent Them

Finding new people If a new employee replaces an old one, it may be easy, but finding a replacement with the same skills as the old one is more difficult.

Many companies make the mistake of neglecting to take care of talented and capable people in the organization because they may believe that finding new employees to replace them is something that can be done.

But do you know that thinking and doing this way may cause the organization to have to pay more expenses, whether it is the cost of recruiting and hiring people, which of course may have to be very expensive to attract people, the cost of developing people, and may not even know if the new people hired will be able to work or not. It is very risky and not worth it at all.

If the company really cares about the old employees who are dedicated, capable, and have clear achievements, and takes care of them to create a growth path and increase their salary appropriately, this path is definitely more worthwhile than hiring new ones.

But often, it is too late. The company neglects to take care of them, leading to their departure. To avoid making the same mistakes again, the boss or executive must be closer to them and watch for the following symptoms and signs.

    1. More absenteeism : Are they taking more time off work than they used to?
    2. Changed attitudes : They suddenly became noticeably more negative.
    3. Less Effective : They are showing signs of letdown, as evidenced by a decline in the quality of their work, indicating a loss of passion or a lack of purpose to continue working.
    4. Silent in a meeting : They stop sharing their views or ideas. They probably think it’s useless to offer them.
    5. Less participation : They don’t care about their work, which means they don’t want to be a part of it anymore.
    6. Avoiding responsibility : They show reluctance to take on challenging or new tasks that are different from what they used to do.
    7. Avoiding activities : They try to create reasons, find excuses to not participate in the activities of the agency or organization.
    8. No Excitement : They show no excitement or interest at all. They are indifferent to the events in the organization.
    9. They are updating their online profile more frequently : They are showing that they are re-opening themselves by starting to look for new jobs.

When we find out that our employees have these symptoms and we really want them to stay, we have to talk to them seriously and directly. It may be too late or not. We have to see what the results will be after talking to them.

    Understand why people stay?

    • They want their work to matter.

    • They want to feel appreciated.

    • They want freedom in their work and decision making.

    • They want to get challenging work.

    • They need support to grow.

    • They want to have a voice and be heard by their boss or management.

    • They want to be valuable to the organization and the agency.

So if you see these signs, here’s what you should do :

    • Talk: Allow for open and honest conversation.
    • Listen: Be open to feedback, show empathy, and show concern.
    • Align: Check if the company’s goals are still right for them.
    • Support: Make them feel heard about their concerns and let them know that they are always available to help.
    • Acknowledge: Show them that you value them and their contributions.
    • Flexibility: Show them that they matter as individuals.
    • Opportunity: Provide opportunities by offering training or new challenging work.
    • Trust: Build your culture by giving them trust.

    Conclusion

For the 9 signs that your top employees are about to leave

As leaders, you have a responsibility to do your best to create a place where they can grow, feel valued, and want to stay. So lead with care, be considerate, and open to your people, and your best people will stay.
