Top 10 Skills of 2025 Important skills that workers must have before 2025 It’s time for workers to accelerate their development, whether it’s Reskill or Upskill, because the work we are doing or the work we see in this era, in the next 5 years, may no longer exist.

Change and uncertainty go hand in hand. Both are becoming closer to working people every day. Especially with the advent of COVID, it has become clear that businesses or jobs that were once stable, such as the airline business or the pilot profession, have become businesses and careers that have been severely affected. Some have had to close down quickly, and other businesses and careers may follow if this situation does not improve.

After COVID, what will happen next?

Now we don’t know when COVID will end. How will the story end? However, the widespread impacts on workers now are having an impact on the near future as well. The World Economic Forum (WEF) has conducted a study and the results of the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report say that…

The arrival of COVID has pushed organizations to change faster, whether in terms of working methods or business processes. For example, 83% are pushing for Remote Work, meaning employees can work from anywhere. 84% are pushing for Digital Transformation, and another 50% are pushing for more Automation. The resulting impacts are:

Humans and machines, who will stay or who will go in 2025?

Figure 1: Rate of Automation (World Economic Forum)

The WEF predicts that the proportion of human labor to machines will increase from 67% in 2020 to 53% in 2025.

Jobs that are disappearing and new jobs that will emerge in 2025?

Due to the impact of technology and the increasing proportion of mechanization, the WEF further states that by 2025, it is estimated that 85 million jobs will be impacted, with the proportion of demand for these jobs decreasing.

10 Jobs That Will Be Impacted (Sharply Demand) By 2025
    1. Data Entry Clerks
    2. Administrative and Executive Secretaries
    3. Accounting, Bookkeeping and Payroll Clerks
    4. Accountants and Auditors
    5. Assembly and Factory Workers
    6. Business Services and Administration Managers
    7. Client Information and Customer Service Workers
    8. General and Operations Managers
    9. Mechanics and Machinery Repairs
    10. Material-recording and Stock-keeping Clerks

These occupations were once in demand, but are now in decline and may soon be replaced by machines.

But at the same time, in the next 5 years, there will be 95 million new jobs, most of which will be in the technology field. If we, the workers, know and prepare now, the opportunity to move forward in the future career will open up immediately.

10 Jobs in High Demand in 2025
    1. Data Analysts and Scientists
    2. AI and Machine Learning Specialists
    3. Big Data Specialists
    4. Digital Marketing and Strategy Specialists
    5. Process Automation Specialists
    6. Business Development Professionals
    7. Digital Transformation Specialists
    8. Information Security Analysis
    9. Software and Application Developers
    10. Internet of Things Specialists

What will be the impact on workers and the job market in 2025?

Figure 2: Reskilling Needs of all employees by 2025 (World Economic Forum)

50% of workers will need to reskill by 2025 or in the next five years due to the advent of work-related technologies such as 5G, Robotic, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Engergy Transformation, and others, all of which are playing a role in many industries and many businesses. As a result, existing knowledge may not be sufficient and it is necessary to learn more about related technologies in order to continue with the future world of work.

Figure 3: Reskilling needs of current workers (World Economic Forum)

40% of workers today need to urgently adapt and reskill themselves within six months or less. The time for self-development is getting shorter and shorter because technology and change are so fast. Learning a skill for a long time may not be able to be used immediately.

Top 10 Skills of 2025 What are the skills that must be had before 2025?

The World Economic Forum has summarized the key skills that workers will need by 2025 as follows:

    1. Analytical Thinking and Innovation
    2. Active Learning and Learning Strategies
    3. Complex Problem-solving
    4. Critical Thinking and Analysis
    5. Creativity,Originally and Initiative
    6. Leadership and Social Influence
    7. Technology use, Monitoring and Control
    8. Technology Design and Programming
    9. Resilience, Stress tolerance and Flexibility
    10. Reasoning, Problem-solving and Ideation

Skill development options have become a survival option for working people.

Of the 10 skills that must be had before 2025, it was found that there are 5 skills that are related to problem-solving. This shows that if we are people who have a good and fast problem-solving foundation, building on new skills will be able to learn faster and easier.

The WEF tells us that Critical thinking and Problem-solving are the skills that entrepreneurs see as most essential, and those who possess these skills are sure to excel and grow in their organizations.

And there are other skills that are additionally necessary and are required, namely in the matter of Self Management, such as Active Learning, Resilience, and Stress tolerance and flexibility. This is also necessary for people working in this era because we need to have skills in self-flexibility, manage stress well, and be someone who is always ready to learn new things. Otherwise, we will not be able to adapt and overcome the changes that are happening and that are coming.

However, working people cannot avoid working together. Skills in working with people are also essential for working in the 2025 era, namely in terms of Leadership and Social Influence.

As working people, how much time or how should we spend developing our skills?

We can learn the skills we need or want online. The World Economic Forum analyzed data from online learning resources like LinkedIn and Coursera to find out what specific skills will be needed for the jobs of the future.

It was found that learning new skills or specialized skills is increasingly in demand and has a higher number of learners. Part of the driving force is COVID, which has completely changed the learning model (from Offline Reskilling to Online Reskilling). According to Coursera data, in the past period from April to June, the number of users grew by 4 times.

Therefore, learning through online channels is a way to help employees or workers in many ways, whether it is having the opportunity to choose to learn skills that they are interested in and want, or helping to learn new skills or specific skills quickly and be able to apply them to their work faster.

According to Coursera, we can learn new essential skills such as People and Culture, Content Writing, Sales and Marketing within 1-2 months, or learn Product Development, Data and AI within 2-3 months, or learn in depth about Cloud Computing or Engineering within 4-5 months, etc.

    Conclusion for this story

Things we have learned or things we have known will soon expire.

No matter how the world changes, when will a situation like COVID-19 end? Or will there be new diseases like this? These are external factors that all of us in the working world have to face and cannot avoid.

But what has been proven is that the skills necessary for the profession and survival skills, whether it is the ability to adapt, change, and cope with the situation that occurs of each person, will be the immunity for working people like us to be able to overcome the bad situations both now and in the future.

Whenever we stop developing ourselves, it means that we accept that we cannot continue in the future world that is coming.

So, don’t blame change for making your life worse. Blame yourself for not changing… You are the one who makes everything in your life worse.
