Does your boss dislike you because he has a negative bias towards you or for some other reason?

The boss doesn’t like us. It’s impossible for him to dislike us out of nowhere. There must be a reason why he’s dissatisfied, or the root cause is us making him dislike us.

“We have the right to dislike or be dissatisfied with our boss. Our boss also has the right to dislike or be dissatisfied with us.”

The boss has feelings, just like us.

The actions that the boss expresses that make us or anyone feel that the boss doesn’t like us may have a cause or a necessary reason, such as the boss may be under pressure from the executives.

The boss may be in trouble or has personal problems that he cannot tell anyone, causing him to communicate or show behavior that may make us feel dissatisfied. Or it may be possible that we have done something wrong or done something that the boss is dissatisfied with (something that we may not be aware of or may be aware of but think that it may not be an issue).

What are some reasons why your boss might be dissatisfied?

The symptoms that your boss shows that he doesn’t like you or doesn’t like someone at work may be caused by you. Which is mostly the result of your own behavior, such as:

    • Being a person who is severely lacking in discipline : such as always coming to work late, never being on time for meetings, absent from work without good reason, not to mention having no sense of time or precision.
    • Being a person who lacks credibility : For example, working slowly, submitting work slowly, never on time, making a lot of excuses. Because of this, it causes trouble for the boss. The boss himself probably wants the work to be finished on time, not to be a mess every time he gives work.
    • Being a person who never admits their mistakes : For example, they make mistakes all the time but never learn to improve or fix things. On top of that, they blame other people for the problems in their work instead of blaming themselves. This type of behavior shows a severe lack of responsibility.
    • Being a person who likes to gossip about others : For example, no matter where you are at work or who you are talking to, you always like to gossip about other people. Or gossip about your coworkers and bosses. Or like to gossip about other people to your boss. If you are like this, everyone will be fed up.
    • Being a person who likes to work over others : For example, working arbitrarily without letting the boss know or not letting anyone in the team know, or sometimes likes to work to show off by going over the boss, sneaking off to talk to the executives without telling the boss. Being like this can be seen as trying to undercut the boss.
    • Being a show-off, bragging, thinking you are better than others : Thinking you are better than everyone else at work, better, more capable than your boss, likes to show off, show off your knowledge, show off your intelligence in everything. If you are like this, your boss will not like people who are against you. Let’s just say you can be good, but don’t be arrogant. That’s better.
    • Being a person who does things that should not be done, things that should be done but not done : important work that should be done first, but not doing it, instead doing work that is not important or not urgent, or work that the department should be rushed to do, but not doing it, instead helping other departments. Being like this, it is a waste of important work. It is because of not knowing how to manage time and importance.
    • Being a person who likes to avoid doing difficult work or work that they don’t like : In this case, it means avoiding work, hard work, difficult work, not really wanting to do it, will choose only easy work, easy work, has a habit of complaining and being reluctant all the time when assigned work. For this kind of person, what boss would want to push them to grow?
    • Being a person who cannot work with anyone : cannot work as a team, creates division, creates problems for anyone who works with them, acts like a loner, has no friends, no one wants to work with them, the result is gradually becoming a redundant person in the workplace, eventually becoming someone who is forgotten.
    • Being a person who mixes personal matters with work : Drama at home, personal drama, bringing it to be involved at work, resulting in problems at work, affecting one’s own performance and that of the organization. If it’s like this, the boss will definitely be dissatisfied.
    • Being a problem-creating person and leaving problems for others to solve : Every time work passes through your hands, problems arise. Being a problem-creating person but not solving problems, floating away and running away, leaving the boss and team to solve problems. If it’s like this, wouldn’t it be better if you didn’t let me work?
    • Being a person who often embarrasses the department or makes the boss lose face : This issue is really serious. If you do a bad job, it’s not that bad, but if you do a bad job, and also create a bad reputation for the department and make the boss lose face, there’s no boss who would be on good terms with you.
    • People who resist change : Stubborn, stubborn, do not accept new things, stick to work or from past experiences, see change as nothing good, making them a group of people who drag down the organization instead of helping push it forward.

Just 12 points are plenty for reasons or problems that make your boss dislike you or be dissatisfied with you.

“Before blaming others, we should always look at ourselves first.”

In each stage of working, we should review and see which points we may have done wrong and which may have caused the boss to be dissatisfied. If the cause is our own, then fix it. It will be easier to continue working. And importantly, if we see this as an opportunity to improve ourselves by reducing these shortcomings, then it means that we have already overlooked our biases towards the boss.

But if the boss’s dissatisfaction or the boss’s dislike of us is due to bias or personal reasons of the boss, this will be difficult to solve because we will never know the truth of why he dislikes us (and there is no need to find the answer because it is a waste of time).

When dissatisfaction accumulates, it will start to turn into prejudice. When prejudice occurs, it is difficult to expect that the boss will change his thoughts and negative feelings towards us. We may have to take time to prove ourselves by changing ourselves (in a big way), but we do not know how much energy and time we will need to prove ourselves (we will have to wait and see).

But many times, time or dedication to prove yourself may not help. Don’t forget that there are always other companies for us to choose from. We may not have to waste time with people who have negative prejudices against us.

Try to decide which path is right for you and is the path you choose worth choosing?
