Fear is the Enemy of Success – If we are afraid of what people around us say, when will we dare to go out and pursue our dreams and goals seriously?

If you are still not inspired, try to find and learn from those who have been successful before. You will get positive energy, ideas and methods from them.

If we talk about those who have succeeded, there are many and probably no one does not know Pee Dung, Mr. Patee Sarasin, or the former CEO of Nok Air. Many people probably understand that Pee Dung left being the CEO of Nok Air because he failed. But who would have thought that this was a great beginning? Even though at present Pee Dung is no longer the CEO of Nok Air, Pee Dung’s dream of initiating and doing many things has not stopped.

    Brother Dung, Mr. Pati Sarasin

Today, the admin will take everyone to get to know and understand the thinking style of successful executives, the kind who dare to win, dare to lose, dare to take risks. If compared to sports, it can be considered an extreme sport.

    The beginning of great success

From the interview, Phi Dung said that initially, Phi Dung worked in advertising and marketing, which was very successful. Then he had the opportunity to become the CEO of Nok Air, which was invited by Dr. Thanong Pittaya. Even though he had no background in this field, Phi Dung was never afraid or hesitated to do it.

To step over something that has never happened, everyone is afraid, even Phi Dung himself was afraid. But what made Phi Dung dare to do it was that we had to look to the future, had to be a risk taker, and with the basic nature of being a brave and reckless person, on the basis of being brave, there was a way of thinking that made us believe in ourselves. Because when starting the advertising company, the company was small, with only 30 employees, but it was able to make the company successful, so Phi Dung was more confident in daring to do it.

Fear is the Enemy of Success - Patee Sarasin
    Brother Dung, Mr. Pati Sarasin

Being the CEO of Nok Air at the age of 30 means that throughout his career he has always had risks and the courage to take action. And as a student abroad since the age of 4, he was raised and molded into a child who had to live by himself and survive. Since he did not live with his parents, he spent most of his life in the United States, giving him the courage to face things he had never done or seen before.

The role of CEO ends with a new style of tourism business

Phi Dung started his OTA (Online Travel Agency) business because he was already interested in this business. Phi Dung revealed that during his time as CEO of Nok Air, he had the idea to expand the Nok Air brand into many different businesses, such as NOK Hotel, NOK Cafe, and many more. Since the brand was strong enough, he intended to expand the brand to cover everything related to tourism besides NOK Air, with the idea that “not putting all your eggs in one basket, when there is a problem, there will be other businesses to support.” However, he did not receive any feedback from other executives, so the airline was unable to expand into other businesses.

“We shouldn’t put all our eggs in one basket, because when problems arise, we won’t have a backup plan.”

In the modern era, the lifespan of some businesses is very short. If the same processes that were once successful but took a long time were used in the present era, it would be inappropriate and untimely. Because the lifespan of businesses these days is short, and with P’Dung’s personality and ideas that are courageous and want to take action, he decided to resign from being an executive of Nok Air to start a tourism business under the brand name ” Really Really Cool ” in order to be able to cover a variety of businesses, whether it be tourism, hotels, restaurants, it can be considered a continuation of the idea that he intended to do since he became the CEO of Nok Air, and the word “Cool” is used because it means good.

Phi Dung, Mr. Pati Sarasin and his newest business, Really Really Cool

The reason for choosing to do the Tech-travel business as the first business, apart from being interested and continuing the idea, is because I have an association with airlines, which is my connection. And P’Dung has a lot of knowledge in this area, so I came in and set myself up as an entrepreneur. It took about 3 years to see the picture and the direction. In the first year, I studied. Because the tourism business is a fairly large business, bigger than airline management, I studied the prototype and designed and invented the working model. I invested in it to measure the results that the set approach can be implemented and successful. After that, in the second year, I started paving the way for the business. And in the third year, I will bring the business to the market, but I encountered a problem with the COVID-19 outbreak situation, which caused the business to slow down a bit. But because P’Dung himself had planned other backup operations, the business was still able to continue.

Doing Business under the COVID-19 Crisis

During the severe COVID-19 outbreak, many businesses have stopped, some have closed, and many have grown.

For tourism business operators, the COVID-19 situation has had a significant impact on business operations. Many businesses do not dare to take the risk, but for Pee Dung, Mr. Pati Sarasin, this is a business opportunity.

Even though there is still a COVID-19 situation, Brother Dung has not stopped or slowed down his business operations and continues to follow the plan for tourism, which is creating a new and unique application and finally opening an OTA in collaboration with major international media, which is a big step in business.

At the same time, he had the idea to start a food delivery business with his younger sister, who used to run a noodle shop called Doong Deng Dai. His wife also started a shower gel business, including alcohol gel, which is currently in demand in the market.

Doing business during the COVID-19 outbreak must take into account the four necessities: food, medicine, clothing, and shelter. This means that what we sell must be in the four necessities that consumers currently need.

    Management and forwarding

To be successful in business, you need to have a good team and you need to manage people well. That is why Phi Dung can manage many things and everything is successful.

In addition to doing business in tourism, delivering food and alcohol gel, there is also education. The purpose is to create knowledge for others, transfer knowledge, open perspectives on things that have never been seen or thought of before, teach how to think about doing business, not just thinking about making products and competing with competitors, but teaching to change perspectives to look at the behavior of people, consumers, look at businesses from all sides, which does not have to be studied from just one point, but we can learn from many places, many brands, draw out the strengths and develop our products, put something related to behavior into the product.

These concepts are all derived from the accumulation of experience over a long period of time, not just theories and practices from textbooks, but the knowledge from textbooks has been filtered and distilled into practice and then taught. It means that what is taught is just a guideline, but if you really want to learn, you have to do it and learn from real things. Those who come to study will gain confidence. The result is that those who study after completing the first course can have their own businesses. What P’Dung does is just stimulate them to think and take action. If they do it and are not successful, they can come back and talk about it and do it again. Try again.

What skills should you have to be successful in this era?

    • Open your mind, open your thoughts, listen and learn : Don’t waste time looking at and criticizing others in a negative way, but turn to develop yourself.
    • Work well with others : Be respectful of others. You need to know how to build many alliances because in this day and age, it is difficult to succeed in business alone.
    • Think deep but act broadly : Because thinking of doing business, even if we have expertise, but nowadays just doing business in Thailand alone is no longer enough. We have to plan a path to make our business able to reach the world level as well. Because now we can do it more easily because there is the internet and online systems to support us.

    Conclusion

From the interview about Dung’s story, what the admin saw was that in the beginning, Dung mentioned his childhood where he trained himself to survive, making him a person who dared to think and act. This means that the society in which people live their lives plays a part in instilling and molding people’s thoughts and methods. This made Dung a person who dared to act and was not afraid of things that had not yet happened.

And in our case, if we were born in a Thai society where we did not live on our own since childhood, and we did not dare to try and do things, or even think about stepping over things we were afraid of and had never done, what should we do?

“Don’t be afraid of what has not yet arrived or what may not actually happen.”

The best way is that we must start by changing our way of thinking, stop being afraid of things that have not happened yet, and turn to try to do things through studying and finding information on inspiration. And we must dare to take risks while we do not have any obligations and responsibilities to take care of.

Because making mistakes or disappointments at a young age is considered a small failure. We can gain experience and learn from it. It is better than making a big failure when the business is going well. And when we are successful, we will not fail with the problems we have encountered.

“When we have a clear goal, we shouldn’t pay attention to things around us that can make us lose confidence.”

We will never succeed if we still have a fearful mindset, fear of losing, fear of failing. The things we fear are things we have never done. If we try and fail, it doesn’t matter because we tried to do our best. But if we succeed, will we regret not doing it? Therefore, don’t be afraid of success.

“We can never please everyone. Criticism is a way of self-improvement, and we must believe in the path we choose.”

Sometimes in work, there will be some things that are not pleasing to others and there may be various criticisms. We can listen to them but choose to think about them. For compliments and constructive comments, we listen to them and take them back to develop ourselves. But for negative comments, we can listen to them but do not take them to heart. Believe in yourself and follow your own path. In some things, we do not need to explain all the details because we already know how it is.

“Whatever we are going to do, even if it means taking some risks, the important thing is that we must have confidence.”

Phi Dung told us, “You have to be arrogant. If you’re not, you’re dead.” We must have the belief that we can do it, dare to do it, dare to be different and stand out, and then we will be successful. Even if no one agrees at first, don’t worry about it, but believe in yourself.

“Growth Mindset will make us never stop, always ready to learn new things, and will make us not afraid of disappointment.”

Learning should not stop even if you are successful. You must always learn because the world does not stop. Everything is developing and progressing every day. If you want to achieve sustainable and permanent success, you should not stop learning.

Thoughts and attitudes are very important. Everything starts from thoughts. If you want to be successful, change your way of thinking. Practice being a person with a growth mindset because thoughts can determine your life.

And here is a great story from Phi Dung , Mr. Pati Sarasin, with “Fear is the Enemy of Success” is the Enemy of Success”
