    When you hear the name of this year’s trend, everyone might frown and look puzzled, or maybe even say “Oh!” because many work coaches on TikTok have explained this topic before. So let’s get to know the new work trends that are more interesting and colorful than the trends of last year.

    What is anger at work?

    When it comes to work-related anger, you may wonder what it is. Is it anger from a biased boss, or anger from a coworker who likes to show off, or anger from an irresponsible subordinate? Yes, these are all work-related anger. And this trend of applying for a job with anger is about using this anger to apply for a new job.

    “We live in an era where applying is very easy.”

    Is your current job making you so angry that you want to quit and start browsing the internet for job opportunities? Every job related to your field, no matter how near or far, is constantly replaying annoying conversations you had with your boss or co-worker over and over again in your head as you scroll through the list. This only makes you so angry that you want to quit right now.

    “This is a sign you should start applying for jobs with anger.”

    The term first appeared on the TikTok platform in December 2022, when a user named @redweez posted a video about how he received a job offer with a salary of $25,000 by applying for a job while he was bored and angry. The video went viral on the internet for weeks, and after that, many other TikTokers started posting their own angry job application experiences.

    “This has been the trend for finding a job all along.”

    On the TikTok platform, Rage Applying is called using anger. A career coach said that in fact, applying for jobs using anger as a driving force is a method that we have been using all along. It’s not new. Cassie Spencer, host of the Happenstance podcast, explained that what seems new in the trend of applying for jobs with anger is not using anger to apply for jobs, but the platforms that we use to apply for jobs today, which are more convenient and easier. Therefore, applying is easier than in the past when you had to travel to the company you wanted to apply to, submit an application and wait for an interview date.

    Why are we motivated by anger?

    Honestly, anger is rooted in strong negative emotions. Maybe you’re dealing with a systemic or corporate culture issue at a company that isn’t a good fit for you, like having a toxic boss, being forced to move desks after years of service, unfairly laying off employees and you know the reasons for the unfairness, or your current position just isn’t meeting your needs and achieving your goals.

    “It’s not uncommon for employees to feel angry after a hard day at work.”

    Employees, especially Gen Z and millennials, are looking for companies that aren’t stuck in a 20th-century corporate culture. They can decide from the very beginning whether to move on or stop. Many organizations have HR departments that don’t keep up with the world’s progress. They don’t understand why employees get so angry after a tough day. Whether it’s a mistake or a irrational overhaul, they feel like they’re fixing every problem they’re facing. All of this can lead employees to feel like anger is the perfect solution. At least they can cool off your boiling blood by letting off some steam.

    Does anger really work in job applications?

    If you find yourself in a late-night rage rage, don’t assume that everyone will find a new job that offers a big salary. When we look at trends on Tiktok, we may feel that there are many people who are successful, but there are also many who are not successful and they don’t come out to share. Applying for a job is throwing yourself into new opportunities and paths where you may find that you are not a good fit for the company or the company is not a good fit for you. So don’t apply for something that is not really a good fit for us.

    “Waste of time”

    There is a high chance that anger will push you into situations that you are not happy with. The time you spend applying for new jobs may be in vain because while your blood is still pumping with anger, you are likely to overlook the efforts you are making to create a persuasive story for the company you are applying to, so that they will see you as outstanding. You will hardly notice your own mistakes, you will not present yourself in the best light, and if you apply to all of them, you will probably not be the best ones.

    While applying for a job in anger may not be the best strategy for landing your dream job, there are some aspects that can help you find a job. Here are some of the things you can do to help you get one:

    1. Applying for a job with anger as a driving force opens up opportunities in many ways at once.
    2. You won’t doubt your qualifications for a potential role because anger will keep you from hesitating or thinking too much about whether you’re a good fit.
    3. There is an opportunity to get a pay raise because anger makes you more likely to speak up and negotiate.
    4. You have a chance to get the position you want. Anger will make you lose your inhibitions in speaking.

    What can you do instead of using anger?

    Instead of relieving the panic and anger you feel by expressing your anger, try taking things slow and talking to someone. It may work in your favor on the other hand.

    “The first thing is to stop and acknowledge where the emotion is coming from.”

    Before you apply for a job because you’re motivated by anger, take a moment to pause and recognize where the emotion is coming from. Whether it’s anger, fear, anxiety, or something else entirely, we sometimes feel angry because people are really bad at their jobs, and it can make you feel even more isolated. If this is happening to you, you may just need a little respite or a break from the toxic environment. Remove yourself from the toxic environment, talk to a coworker about your discomfort, and try to express what you need to.
